Deadline Jan 25 2022 05:00 PM (PST)
Description

The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation announced the inaugural competition for Moore Experimental Physics Investigators (EPI). The initiative will provide support for creative mid-career individuals and their research teams to advance our understanding of physical phenomena and promote equity and inclusion in experimental physics communities. Visit the initiative webpage for more details, including Frequently Asked Questions.

Investigators must have earned tenure (or equivalent) at their U.S. institution and be within four years of that appointment at the time of application. Selection of experimental physics investigators will use a two-stage process. In the first stage, we invite individuals from U.S. institutions to submit pre-proposals. Pre-proposals will include CV information, current and pending support, and a short essay on your proposed research directions. Data fields in the CV will be entered individually to allow identifying information to be withheld in the selection process to reduce bias. In addition, we are asking all applicants to write research summaries without identifying information.

Proposals will be reviewed by Moore Foundation staff in consultation with an external advisory board and a limited number will advance to the second stage. In the second stage, individuals will be invited to submit a more complete research proposal, an engagement plan that describes how the applicant is creating equitable and inclusive research groups and advancing these issues in their department and university, a budget, a letter from your department chair outlining your engagement with the department and service and teaching loads, a transmittal letter from the applicant’s university or institution, and a recommended list of reviewers (suggested and excluded with rationale). CV information will be carried forward from the pre-proposal. We anticipate providing at least four weeks between notification and the deadline for final submission in mid-April. A frequently asked questions document provides answers to many questions. If you have additional questions or concerns that are not covered in the FAQ, please contact us at epi@moore.org.
